Central Washington Desert Engagements
Dry Falls Sun Lakes is such a rad and unique location. It was carved by the Ice Age floods more than 13,000 years ago, so basically it’s massive. The former waterfall was once more than four times the size of Niagara Falls. Besides the deep gorges and reflective lakes, there are also numerous driving and hiking trails around the park. We did a little off-roading and frolicked around the fields of fall. So poetic.
But seriously, what a fun shoot this was - full of inappropriate jokes, laughter, and that Central Washington sunshine. Dry Falls Sun Lakes is roughly 2 hours away from Spokane and it’s a great and easy day-trip. We even brought our foster pup Bella (as pictured) and we were so excited to get some cute desert photos of her. Miss Bella had other plans, though, and got sick (by “sick” I mean she crapped all over) in the backseat of our freakin’ rental car. Yes, a rental car. *face slap*. Luckily, she was in her dog sling and we had bags and bags of old clothes we were going to donate that we could use to clean up with. But LOL what a disaster.
Also - update: Bella (now Zoe) has been adopted by the most amazing family and she is BEYOND happy. YAY!
These are the kind of sessions that I absolutely love..easy, vulnerable, effortless, fun, etc. You know, the ones where you show up and laugh and make jokes at each other like you’re old friends? It’s the best.
I’m also thinking I need to explore the Washington desert a little bit more. It’s odd seeing open fields and the Rocky Mountains in the background, rather than the dense forests and evergreen covered mountains that we are used to in the PNW. We live in a diverse state, can you believe that I haven’t been to the Washington coast or done a session there, yet? I NEED to, who’s down? Sign me up.
