Cape Kiwanda Elopement on the Oregon Coast
I love the Oregon Coast. If I were to ever live somewhere else, it’d probably be the place. I love the windy salty air and the expansive shores, the surfers and hikers, the trees and mountains and sand dunes…all of it. When Lindsay & Noah had to cancel their Cancun wedding due to COVID (yes, I know *tear*), they really took their time to consider where they wanted to go instead. I think the ocean was the obvious part….they wanted to be barefoot and have their dogs splash through the waves in a way that was effortless and intentional.
Life leading up to their wedding was a freakin’ struggle though. You know - COVID effed everything up and their work schedules, jobs, and worlds pretty much were turned upside down. I remember talking with Lindsay numerous times and her expressing that due to all the uncertainty and change in their lives they just couldn't shift their focus to “wedding RE-planning.” Even though they put their wedding on hold, that didn’t get in their way of joining their lives together…because like any other badass couple in love, they wanted to BE TOGETHER already. So they went to the courthouse and got hitched. They adopted another puppy (you’ll die at the cuteness that the dogs brought to this wedding), found the silver lining, and planning their “wedding” for spring 2021.
Long story short…the wedding day arrives….and Lindsay is freakin’ puking her guts up. 💀
I kid you not, her friends told me she probably puked about 20-30 times that day. I reassured her that we could reschedule to the next day, but this little angel decided to tough it out and keep on going. I have no idea how, but even after throwing up in a tupperware bucket in the backseat of her car in between photos and the ceremony…she looked absolutely flawless. Like FLAWLESS. This is one blessed woman. And one blessed man, am I right?!
Backing up a bit - I remember sitting down for coffee with Lindsay when we daydreaming up her wedding and she told me that their number one goal was to be true to themselves and to infuse their personality in every aspect of the day. She wanted the effortlessness of the ocean as a backdrop, the comradery of her very best friends and family sharing in all the memories, the late night drinks, the long sunsets, and eating wedding cake in their swimsuits type of casual vibe…she wanted her LIFE at her wedding. There were 5 dogs running around, her dad led the ceremony, it was short and sweet and beautiful and memorable. I loved every single second and I’m lucky to have been a part of it.
Even considering the fact that we cut the overall day a little short due to Lindsay being sick AF…you’d never tell. This was the best “family & friends vacation to the coast” type of vibe and if I could go back and re-do my wedding, it’d be something just like this.
Basically this is your sign to buy a beautiful dress and get married in a location that doesn’t need decor or props or anything. Just you, your people, and one hell of a celebration.
